Reversibility Institute

The Reversibility Institute studies reversible processes across programming, manufacturing and physics: reversible and zero-energy computing, circular manufacturing, and the thermodynamics of information.

About

Reversibility is a single idea with deep reach. A reversible process loses nothing, no information, no energy and no material, because every step can be retraced. That ambition shows up in software that never throws a bit away, in products designed to be taken apart and remade, and in the physical laws that say why forgetting costs heat. The Institute studies all three together.

Programmes

Programming

Reversible computing and zero-energy programming: languages that run backwards, adiabatic logic, and the path to computation that approaches Landauer's limit.

Manufacturing

Design for disassembly, remanufacturing and reuse, so products and materials cycle instead of becoming waste.

Physics

Thermodynamic reversibility, time-reversal symmetry, and the link between entropy, information and computation.
